All Business

When my new website launched a couple months ago, I can’t even tell you how excited I was to have new business cards made. Admittedly, I had been using some old ones that didn’t even have my new logo on them (new logo- as in the one I’ve had for like 4 years now). They didn’t match my brand at all anymore, and for the longest time I just didn’t even hand them out to anyone. So when it was time to start anew, I was ready to spring for some quality, thick, black and gold, statement making cards.  MaeMae & Co made them happen for me in a big way! I still can’t get over how awesome they are, so I just had to share them with you guys.

Bro vs Bro

I’m excited to share with you guys a project I worked on this winter which airs this Sunday on HGTV – it’s season 2 of Brother vs. Brother! Last year I had the pleasure of working on season 1 and getting to know the Scott brothers who’ve since become two of my best styling clients and good friends. If you haven’t seen any of their three shows on HGTV (Property Brothers and Buying and Selling are the other two), be warned: you will instantly become addicted and not be able to tare yourself away from a marathon. The two are so infectious and endearing, it’s impossible not to love them, even more so in person. So in honor of the season premier, I thought it might be fun to share with you some key pieces that represent their style…

First we have Drew, the realtor, aka the dapper one. Drew cleans up nice pretty much everyday on Property Brothers and Buying and Selling, wearing a lot of suits (I still need to count his ties – it would be a staggering number). On Brother vs. Brother, I get to dress him in some more casual looks since he actually steps in and gets his hands dirty from time to time. But my favorite look to dress him in is halfway between casual and a full-on suit, layering everyday pieces (he loves colored jeans by AG and Paige) with some more elevated ones like a blazer and slick shoes. A lot of nights after a 12-hour day on set, he’d cheerily jet off to play in a basketball game immediately after, while I’d be too exhausted to do anything other than come straight home to pj’s.

Next up is Jonathan. He’s the contractor, aka the rugged one.  You’ll often see him in Diesel jeans, plaid shirts (ideally with double pockets and/or epaulets), and his tool belt. He’ll usually rock some construction boots on demo days, but a great pair of brown leather ones like these Aldens look great with everything in his wardrobe. His off-camera style sometimes is a bit more elevated, and he loves a good solid leather jacket. Both brothers have a thing for loud socks, so at any given time we’d have a pile of about 30 pair of Happy Socks in the trailer.  A little known fact about Jonathan is that he’s actually a really talented magician, so sometimes he’d wow the crew with a card trick or two during downtime.

Be sure to tune in to Brother vs. Brother this Sunday on HGTV! And check out the fun behind the scenes web series with their brother JD! Lots of fun to be had.

SwagThis week went by so fast, it almost feels like two weekends are joining up to make one. That makes absolutely no sense, especially since a lot went on this week. For one, I gave a talk on Wednesday at Studio DNA salon about how to use fashion to enhance your business {and your life}. It was tons of fun and they were a great group with lots of good questions. So I’m leaving you this week with one of the slides from my presentation, and a few other things on my mind/radar right now…

Having just upgraded to the iPhone 5 in July, I convinced myself that I didn’t care about the release of the gold 5S. And then Apple had to go and make the sexiest tech geek eye candy commercial using Goldfrapp as bait. UGH!

Style Me Pretty Living included El Diablo in their Autumn inspired cocktail round-up! I can’t wait to try the others that were featured. Fall cocktails are the best cocktails!

Tablet compiled a list of haunted hotels. Fascinating!

Speaking of hotels, I’m excited to try out Gild Hall in NYC around the holidays. Ever been?

I’m considering doing away with the long layers and going with a medium length, slightly more blunt cut instead. Thoughts?

I’ve been playing this album on repeat. Especially Girls, Heart Out, Chocolate, and Menswear.

These 25 Pumpkin Desserts look ridiculously delectable. Bourbon pumpkin milkshakes?? Come. on.

Have a swag filled weekend!

Brother vs. Brother

This winter I had the pleasure of styling two of the nicest, funniest, most talented guys on the planet – Jonathan and Drew Scott (otherwise known as the Property Brothers) for their new show on HGTV, Brother vs. Brother. It’s a reality competition series in which each brother leads a team of home improvement experts in adding value to homes. These guys were so fun to work with and they looked pretty smashing, if I do say so myself. I can’t wait to see it all unfold starting this Sunday on HGTV and you can see all kinds of behind the scenes videos on hgtv.com too. So if you like well dressed men doing demo work, set your DVR’s! My job could be worse.

Bride Outfits for Wedding Events

SHOWER: Lulu Frost earrings, ALICE by Temperley dress, Rubert Sanderson heels, BACHELORETTE: Kelly Wearstler clutch, P.A.R.O.S.H. dress, Giuseppe Zanotti heels, REHEARSAL DINNER: Stella McCartney clutch, Sass & Bide dress, Valentino heels (at Harrods), HONEYMOON: Karen Walker sunglasses, Hervé Léger swimsuit, Ancient Greek Sandals

This weekend I had the pleasure of being a part of WedPrep, a 2-day wedding workshop masterminded by the talented party pros Paige and Kelly of Bash, Please. The curriculum was packed with all kinds of helpful tips from the best in the biz and I was honored to be included in that pool. As the fashion professor, I shared my top tips for how to nail your wedding looks and all the shortcuts to headache-free bridal style. One of the things I talked about was the importance of dressing like the star of every one of your wedding related events as a bride. After all, you’re the center of attention at every party so these outfits should never be an afterthought. Even though a bride has a lot on her plate during the year leading up to her wedding, her party looks are just as important as the main event. So if you’re in the process of planning a wedding (or if you’re simply on the lookout for some cute party or poolside looks), here’s some inspiration for you to get to shopping! I love it when a bride follows a cohesive style story for her events, such as incorporating white into every look she wears. It’s all about enjoying every moment of your time as a bride, so I say milk it for all its worth!

Lifesavers Lately

Joe’s legging jeans, Victoria’s Secret PINK tees, Theysken’s Theory leather jacket, Maybelline Colorsensational Vivid lipsticks, NARS #21 brush, NARS Albatross highlighter, individual false lashes, Klorane dry shampoo, Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation, Maybelline Dream Lumi concealer, Goyard tote, Kate Spade iPhone case, Kate Spade sunglasses, Tom Ford sunglasses, Yogi Super Anitoxident Green Tea, Starbucks mug, Target wedge sneakers, Steve Madden wedge sneakers

Ahhh how I’ve missed this blog over the past month. I don’t like to be gone for so long but sometimes I can’t avoid it. You’ve probably noticed that my blog often battles my day job for my attention. In this case, I spent the past several weeks styling a TV show for HGTV which required pretty much all of my time. I hate to leave my blog hanging but I love the fact that you stick around even if I can’t give you new posts every day. So thanks for your patience during the hiatus and I promise there’s plenty of new inspiration to share, starting with this collection of things that got me through my time working on set. If you find yourself in need of some new staple items for those never ending packed days, I highly recommend each and every one of these items. Most of them speak for themselves, but I do have a few specific notes:

Joe’s legging jeans – They’re equal parts flattering, soft, and comfy so there’s no restricted skinny jeans feeling. Maybelline Vivid lipsticks – They come in such an impressive range of high quality pop colors – I especially love Pink Pop and Shocking Coral. NARS Albatross highlighter + #21 brush – When you’re putting in long hours, it’s downright impossible to maintain a healthy glow without a little help, and this combo really does the trick. Lash extensions – Before starting the show I decided it was the perfect time to try lash extensions (I went to Lashfully). With the early wake-ups, it was so nice to not have to worry about sticking a mascara wand in my eye while I’m still half asleep. They looked glamorous but not too much for a regular day. I’m not sure I will become a devotee since it can get pricey and I still have yet to try the lash lengthening serums. I’ll keep you posted. Wedge sneakers – Even with the wedge, I was surprised to find they are just as comfy as regular sneakers and add an automatic touch of chicness. I’m sold on these altogether.

One last thing before we go back to business as usual. I’m selling my Louis Vuitton Speedy 35! LV just raised the prices on all their classic styles (those rascals), so if you’ve been thinking of adding this one to your collection, it’s the perfect opportunity. I still love it – I just want another LV bag in a similar style and need to prioritize. :) You can find all the details here.

Queen of the Desert

No styling work is more fun than when I get to style my best friends. So naturally I was thrilled to get to be a part of my girl Jaimi‘s Style at Home feature on Glitter Guide. Jaimi has turned her Palm Springs home into a beautiful and happy place where I’ve been lucky enough to spend many long weekends with her gabbing and sipping pinot grigio, and I’m so glad she got a chance to share it. I helped her get dressed, choosing outfits from her wardrobe that felt quintessentially her but the Palm Springs version of her – glamorous but relaxed. Heather Kincaid took stunning photos as always, and Jessica Marx helped put the finishing touches on her beautiful home, working her magic the same way she did with mine. I love how this feature really shows Jaimi’s inner and outer beauty, and I’m so happy I got to be a part of it. See the rest of the feature here.

The Knot – Winter

A few months ago, I shared the cover and fashion spread I styled for The Knot’s fall issue. Now, I’m so excited to show you Round 2 – the Winter issue! This one was extra thrilling to be a part of. Once again, the amazing Elizabeth Messina photographed some of the most gorgeous photos I’ve ever been lucky enough to have a hand in. The Villa at Sunstone Vineyards was the incredible setting – the most perfect place to spend a day. When we packed up, I did not want to leave as the sun was setting and the evening breeze was blowing. Dolce Designs created the floral wonderland that make this dream come to life. Erin Skipley brought her impeccable hair and makeup talent and made our gorgeous models look even more gorgeous.

I’ll admit, I’m like a giddy school girl getting to work with such stunning gowns like these from Monique Lhuillier, Marchesa, Claire Pettibone, Reem Acra, Ines de Santo, and Samuelle who designed that tulle stunner on the cover. Even the mens styles had me swooning with a tux by Yves Saint Laurent, the most perfect shirt by Dolce and Gabbana, and my favorite – the oversized Lanvin bowties (all thanks to Mr. Porter). And don’t even get me started on the diamonds…

Pick up your own issue, on stands now, and check out Grey Likes Weddings and Kiss the Groom for more peeks at the prettiness!
