Tangerine Bourbon Sidecar

Even though I fancy myself a cocktail person, I am the first to admit that I get a little lazy when it comes to an impromptu at-home happy hour. Even with a fully stocked bar, I typically reach for a bottle of wine and call it a day. But it's SO fun to play around with cocktails, and the best part is that you really don't need to have a lot of fancy stuff. Sometimes when the mood strikes or an unexpected celebration (that surprise promotion or a meeting that went better than you possibly could have hoped), putting those basic mixology chops to use just feels appropriate. Now that temps have fallen and fall is officially upon us, I like to trade the tequila of summer for cozier bourbon. The best part is that it pairs so well with citrus juices, like this Tropicana Premium Tangerine Lemonade, garnished with some thyme and some mandarins we had in the kitchen. See below for this simple recipe!

MAKE IT

2 oz Tropicana Premium Tangerine Lemonade

1.5 oz bourbon

.5 oz Cointreau

Stevia drops or sweetener of your choice

Generous lemon wedge

Tangerine wedge (or mandarin, clementine, Cutie, Pixie... whatever you have)

Tangerine slice and thyme sprig for garnish

In a shaker combine tangerine lemonade, bourbon, Cointreau, sweetener (this one doesn't need much - just a drop or two), and ice. Shake and pour into a glass. Squeeze the lemon and tangerine wedges on the top. Garnish with tangerine slice and thyme sprig. Enjoy!

Bachelor in Paradise / Round 2

Last week's girls night for Bachelor in Paradise was just what the doctor ordered, so Ali and I had to get together again for another night of cocktails, TV amazingness, and more girl time! I mean, I'm not kidding when I say Monday might be my favorite night of the week because of the Bachelor shows and the excuses they give me to have girls nights and make cocktails. We sipped on champagne palomas which turned out to be the most perfect easy choice for a weeknight shindig! See below for the recipe and outfit details. What's your favorite show to watch with your girlfriends? Ali is such a fun Bachelor night buddy, for obvious reasons! I might have to trick her into continuing to come back every Monday so I can grill her with more questions. Just kidding (kind of). 521A1226 CHAMPAGNE PALOMA There's nothing more Bachelor appropriate than champagne, and nothing more fitting for "Paradise" than tequila so this cocktail is about as perfect as it gets! Not to mention it's the easiest thing in the world to make. You basically can't mess it up. Palomas are typically made with grapefruit soda, but I loved the idea of swapping in champagne along with some fresh grapefruit juice. You don't have to be that picky with proportions because champagne always just makes everything  work together so effortlessly...

1.5 oz tequila 1.5 oz fresh grapefruit juice 1/2 oz fresh lime juice 1/2 oz simple syrup Champagne Ice Grapefruit wedges for garnish

Combine tequila, lime juice, grapefruit juice, simple syrup, and ice in a shaker. Shake and pour into glass. Top with champagne and garnish with a grapefruit slice.

Bachelor in Paradise Girls Night

It's officially been 15 years since the first Bachelor aired, and I've been enjoying it as a guilty pleasure ever since. One of my favorite ways to kick off a week is by gathering with girlfriends on a Monday night to see all the shenanigans, "final rose of the nights", backstabbing, run-and-jump hug greetings, white wine consumption, helicopter rides, and steamy hot tub makeout sessions that make it one of the best shows on television. So today, my friend Ali Fedotowsky (former Bachelorette, now married mama of her sweet 1-year-old Molly) and I are joining forces to share this fun girls' night for the new season of Bachelor in Paradise! We snacked on easy Mexican no-fuss apps (because... Monday) and sipped on some rose daiquiris (what else??)!

ROSE DAIQUIRI

I always have the most fun watching Bachelor in Paradise because it's the more laid back franchise of the show but still turns out some real relationships. The right cocktail needs the same kind of playful yet "romantic" vibe, with a tropical twist. So what better than a rose infused daiquiri? The rum is so easy to work with and mixes so well with the rose flavor! You use an actual rose to make the syrup, and can work the rest of the bunch into your decor! ;) This would easily translate to a margarita as well, or you could switch gears and make this or this.

2.5 oz light rum 3/4 oz fresh lime juice Himilayan pink salt Honey Ice Rose petals for garnish 1/2 oz rose syrup

Rose syrup: 1 cup sugar 1 cup water Petals of one rose

To make the syrup: combine one cup of sugar, one cup of water, and the rose petals into a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat and let steep covered for one hour. Let cool, and strain into a jar to store in the fridge (up to one week).

To make the daiquiri: Rim the glass with honey, then dip into the salt (putting each on a plate is the easiest way to do this). In a shaker, combine ice, lime juice, rose syrup, and rum. Shake and pour into the glass. Garnish with a rose petal.

I'm not gonna lie, we talked about our outfits prior, both wanting to play to the tropical vacation vibe of paradise while also considering the fact that we're heading to the end of summer and weren't feeling bright punchy colors that might usually make sense in that environment. So some light and breezy styles/fabrics of summer with slightly more muted color accents just makes sense for a BIP girls night at the tail end of summer! These outfits are also perfect for general early fall wardrobe when it's way hotter than you might expect.
