If this past week's hot temps in LA are any indication, summer isn't going anywhere anytime soon. September is always such a confusing time for fashion. All we can think about is cozy sweaters and knee-high boots, but we're sitting here sipping on pumpkin spice lattes and sweating. Lately I've tried to shift my mindset and come to terms with the fact that summer is still in full swing up until at least the first week of October. For that reason, I still let myself get excited about cutoff shorts and tees, but find ways to bring in a bit of fall flavor. I mean, a girl's gotta be comfortable, and perspiration in climate-inappropriate garb is not a good look. But now that we've got fall on the brain, we can still invite it in by packing away the bright summer colors and keeping a neutral palette in the daily uniform. Add some visually heavier accessories like a black fringe bag or wide brimmed wool hat. Those first fall accessory purchases that still felt too rich for August make more sense now, while the base of the outfit is still airy and light. We can always swap in a pair of jeans and add a jacket when those temps cool down in the evenings, until fall stops teasing us and settles in for good.
