If I'm not careful, this whole holiday festive wear thing can end up becoming a major obsession/distraction from all the other important things going on around this time of year. Exhibit A: I spent an entire day this weekend shopping for the perfect pieces to wear to a party, brought home armfuls of stuff, then ended up wearing an outfit comprised entirely of stuff I already had, and now all the new stuff is going back. Oops. There went that Saturday! In order to avoid things getting out of hand, I'm finding that it helps to get your hands on just a few key individual pieces that jump out at you, and can be paired with other things in your closet. That way you don't feel like you have to run out and buy entirely new looks for every party, yet you still feel like you're wearing something fresh and new from previous years. For example, the new pieces in this outfit are a statement necklace and sparkly ShoeMint boots which I've been having fun repeating in various party outfits this season (pssst! ShoeMint is giving away a pair of shoes to one lucky reader! Details below). These pieces brought an element of newness to a vintage gold tuxedo jacket that I got a couple of years ago but always forget about, and staples like a white tee and black tennis skirt. It's a win win- the bank remains unbroken yet I'm all dressed up and ready to go!
Vintage tuxedo jacket (similar here and here) / J.Crew necklace / Isabel Marant for H&M tee (similar) / T by Alexander Wang skirt / Commando tights / BCBG clutch (similar) / Michael Kors watch / Kate Spade ring / ShoeMint 'Nadine' booties (c/o)
