Noir Neutrals

So many of my wardrobe staples are black, I often forget there are other rich neutrals that can mix in just as well. I'll admit I even felt a little weird pairing these pieces together - oxblood + olive + blue gray. How... colorful? Maybe for a girl who uses black as an anchor to every outfit. It's slimming, chic, and goes with everything, which is why it's always the first color I go to if I'm investing in something pricier that I expect to have forever. But my latest challenge is to stray a bit from the black and start playing with other sleek, sophisticated colors. These Alexander Wang booties were my first non-black investment shoes and I like where they've taken my wardrobe. I've still got the Helmut Lang oxblood version of my black waxed skinnies (seen here) on my list as well. It's a whole new world of possibilities.

Winter White

Around the holidays, everything seems to be more amped up, more intense, more exciting, and more decadent. We go big or we go home. So this week I am thrilled to share these photos from an extra special 2-part shoot I did with the magical Heather Kincaid and Fiore Beauty. We frolicked in the woods, we happened upon trees trimmed with lights and baubles in the wild, we bonded with woodland animals. I love working with those girls.

I am definitely a girl who loves white all year round. In the winter it's such a refreshing contrast to the usual darkness of the season and it reminds me of fluffy fresh snow. In this look, it was fun to mix the varying glamorous textures and tones of white with accents of the color of the moment, oxblood. The Fiore team made the look come to life with hair guru Larisa's sassy Bardot tousled waves, and makeup maven Allison's space odyssey metallic lips (and just wait til the next round when you'll get a closer look at the mani from holiday heaven).

See you back here on Thursday with part 2, featuring a holiday party look to remember!

The Mix

Theyskens' Theory leather jacket, All Saints top and boots, Zara pants, Alexander Wang bag, Michael Kors watch, HRH Collection bracelet, Dita sunglasses, NARS Scarlett Empress lipstick, necklace - similar

I wasn't kidding when I said that my fashion week suitcase consisted of not much other than every kind of black and white combo I could find. I wore it in one way or another every single day, and saw that a lot of stylish ladies on the streets of NYC shared my love for the mix. The white pants and sequin top were a nice way to honor the lingering summer temps. My new obsession is to incorporate white in my wardrobe long past Labor Day and into the winter - luckily at this point in the week the weather had cooled down to a perfect fall crispness. The black leather jacket and buckled boots added a very necessary autumn feel to the outfit and brought it far away from soft and light. This was one of my most favorite ensembles of the week, mainly because it made me feel like... me.
