For the most part, May in LA is well past sweater weather, but a few overcast windy days still sneak up on us here and there. I don't mind it, especially since it gives me a chance to cozy up with this tribal print knit number - a new addition to my wardrobe that has unexpectedly come in handy lately for early morning dog walks and cold plane rides. The high contrast design gives it a bit of extra oomph and when mixed with fringey cutoffs, it becomes perfectly appropriate for cooler spring days. These biker boots are another winter gone summer staple, which I was actually compelled to buy last fall because of the inspiration to wear them with shorts. They took me through the colder months with skinny jeans but they're ready to take on their originally intended identity. I love spring fashion because it's a chance to  get creative with your clothes and think of your seasonal pieces in a different light, before it's time to pack winter away and fully immerse yourself into summer.

Winter Walk

20121222-IMG_0229.jpg

Even though I live in LA where the typical winter day involves temps that hover in the 70's, I happen to be a girl who enjoys the cold - within reason, of course. I love to have a hibernation period in the year to eat soup, cozy up with a blanket, drink red wine, layer, and have an excuse to avoid leaving the house. I don't get much of those excuses here, but I took the opportunity to soak up every bit of the crisp air (followed by delicious hot beverages) when I was in Minnesota. I was so excited to finally have a chance to wear the wool All Saints coat I picked up on major sale at the end of the season last year and my new favorite snood from J.Crew which adds a nice pop of pattern to my darker toned winter outerwear (which in LA is usually a leather jacket). Secretly, I'm still a little sad that the holidays came and went so fast. But the year has gotten off to such a great start, all there is to do is keep up with the fast pace of 2013. Can you believe we're already almost done with January?

Winter White

0152.jpg

Around the holidays, everything seems to be more amped up, more intense, more exciting, and more decadent. We go big or we go home. So this week I am thrilled to share these photos from an extra special 2-part shoot I did with the magical Heather Kincaid and Fiore Beauty. We frolicked in the woods, we happened upon trees trimmed with lights and baubles in the wild, we bonded with woodland animals. I love working with those girls.

I am definitely a girl who loves white all year round. In the winter it's such a refreshing contrast to the usual darkness of the season and it reminds me of fluffy fresh snow. In this look, it was fun to mix the varying glamorous textures and tones of white with accents of the color of the moment, oxblood. The Fiore team made the look come to life with hair guru Larisa's sassy Bardot tousled waves, and makeup maven Allison's space odyssey metallic lips (and just wait til the next round when you'll get a closer look at the mani from holiday heaven).

See you back here on Thursday with part 2, featuring a holiday party look to remember!
