Love Love

When it comes to sports, tennis wins the award for most charming in my humble opinion. Not only because us girls get to play it in skirts and dresses (and in my case heels apparently), but it's the only sport that keeps score with love, and don't get me started on the perfectly "on trend" neon yellow balls. This was another sport I played growing up, and like hockey, I was never very good at it (notice a pattern with me and sports?). Luckily tennis is such a satisfying game to play whether you're skilled at it or not, not to mention a fun one to watch - I still have goosebumps from Andy Murray's Wimbledon win! These courts at Carleton College are surrounded by the most beautiful scenery, providing the most ideal setting for an afternoon match. Lately, I've been inspired by sporty details so I was thrilled to find this Rag & Bone number on Shopbop marked way down. It's almost as if it was made for tennis. If Rag & Bone made actual tennis clothes, you'd probably find me on the court a lot more often.

Texas Life

130428_TheLifeStyled_ATX_0187Don't you love those days when life slows down and you get a chance to stop to appreciate the finer things? Like time with friends under a picturesque sunset, enjoying good food and wine, and experiencing a new city for the first time. That's what this trip to Austin was for me and I did not want to come back to real life. It's such an awesome city filled with the most amazing music, vintage stores, patios, BBQ, Tex Mex, and more bars per capita than probably any place I've ever been. The best part is the way of life there that's hard to describe except to say that everyone is just loving life - us included. I even had a chance to go out and shoot with my talented friend Heather Gallagher, who as you can see here from the matte black VW bus (what??), really knows how to make magic happen. This outfit is all you really need in Austin - cutoff shorts, loose vintagey tees, beat up boots, pops of contrast, and cheeky accessories. I'll be collecting more of these things in preparation for my next visit, which hopefully will be for much longer.

Noir Neutrals

So many of my wardrobe staples are black, I often forget there are other rich neutrals that can mix in just as well. I'll admit I even felt a little weird pairing these pieces together - oxblood + olive + blue gray. How... colorful? Maybe for a girl who uses black as an anchor to every outfit. It's slimming, chic, and goes with everything, which is why it's always the first color I go to if I'm investing in something pricier that I expect to have forever. But my latest challenge is to stray a bit from the black and start playing with other sleek, sophisticated colors. These Alexander Wang booties were my first non-black investment shoes and I like where they've taken my wardrobe. I've still got the Helmut Lang oxblood version of my black waxed skinnies (seen here) on my list as well. It's a whole new world of possibilities.
