FAQ

Do you come to my home?

If you live in the Portland area, the closet edit sessions in your styling package will be conducted together in your home if you prefer. If you live outside of Portland, your sessions will take place via Zoom.

Do you travel to clients out of state?

If you don’t live in Portland and are looking for more of an in-depth experience with fittings and closet sessions conducted in your home, I am happy to travel to you. I charge a travel fee which would cover my travel costs and time. Contact me for a quote and availability.

How do the clothing purchases and returns work?

You have two choices of how you would like to handle the purchases. Both options are included in your package.

  1. You order. After I send you your personal shopping list with styled outfits, you are then free to place the actual orders on your own time. This way, you don’t have to share any of your private information and can use your own website logins. It gives you more control over the ordering process, including budget, which sites are being ordered from, and the exact pieces that are being ordered.

  2. We order. If you are looking to be more hands off in the process and want to take a “surprise me” approach, we will handle the ordering for you. After you’re presented with the clothing selections and have had a chance to review them, me and my team will take over from there and order everything we think will work best from the list. This is done using your credit card and store logins (if you have them), to make returns easy.

Returns are the responsibility of the client. However, we offer a full service add-on that includes ordering, receiving shipments, budget tracking, and returns for Portland and Los Angeles clients who are doing in-person appointments. This is also available for clients who are having us travel to you.

Do you ever do in-store shopping with your clients?

After many years of taking my clients shopping to stores, I now do all styling via online shopping. This is simply because it promises more success and access to good clothes than in-store shopping does. When we shop in store, we are at the mercy of what they have in their minimal stock, which so often leads to the annoying news, “We don’t have that.” Nothing worse than going out shopping only to find out your only option to get the items you want in your size or color is to order online, just as you could have done from home with a cup of coffee. Shopping online allows us to cover so much more ground in our time together, which lands you with a better wardrobe in the end. That is the ultimate goal after all, am I right?

Do I have to buy everything right away?

There are no rules or requirements for how you shop once the options have been presented to you. However, there are a couple of things to keep in mind as you envision your timeline. Some pieces may sell out or discontinue as the season passes. If you miss out on something, your clothing selections can still serve as ideas and inspiration for future purchases down the road, but the specific choices can sell out pretty quickly. It’s always a bummer when something slips through our fingers, but there’s usually a backup option. Second, I recommend that we do the post-shopping styling session about two weeks after your clothing picks have been presented to you, which is another incentive to order some pieces sooner rather than later. Clients typically place a first round of orders right away, and go back to some things later on.

Do I have to have a minimum budget to spend on clothes?

There is no minimum budget you have to have in order for these services to be beneficial to you. I work with clients with a wide range of different preferences and needs, and will work with you to find the best set of criteria for the styling we will do together.

How are you handling in-person sessions during COVID-19?

I am taking COVD-19 very seriously. If your styling package includes in-person sessions, I will only come to your home if I and my family are completely healthy. I will arrive with a mask on, and always sanitize my hands in the beginning and throughout the session. If I or anyone in my family show symptoms within two weeks prior to your appointment, I will either obtain a negative test or before coming to your house, or reschedule for two weeks after any symptoms have been present in my home. I also ask that you take the same precautions.

Do you offer partner or group styling?

At this time, my personal styling services are designed to be 1-on-1. I often do work with couples, but their services are usually conducted separately. I also offer Fashion Feng Shui workshops for groups. If you’re interested in hosting a workshop, please contact me.

Is the virtual styling less in-depth than in-person?

Fun fact: 90% of my services have been virtual since 2017. That was a change I made after finding that it was a lot more time efficient and allowed us to cover a lot more ground when it comes to styling. If there is anything 2020 taught us, it’s that we can still have a very similar experience without being in the same room! I still pose the same pointed questions, offer the same tips, and still have you try stuff on to style via Zoom. I still give you the same insight and information that I would if I was standing there. There is also a lot that can be achieved by sending photos. In general, I find that the more you put into these services, the more helpful they will be for you. So if you have a question about an outfit or how to wear something, put it on, snap a pic, and text it to me! I’m always here to help, and make sure that you’re not left with any styling conundrums.

Do you offer styling for weddings and special events?

Yes and no. I don’t currently offer styling for a single event for new clients. However, if you are attending a party, wedding, or another special event, we will certainly get you styled for those as part of the larger styling package you choose (Closet Overhaul or Long Term Styling). If you are a current or past client and are getting married, please contact me to learn about styling options.

What if I need to cancel a service part way through?

The seasonal nature of styling, as well as the asymmetrical allocation of time throughout our work together makes it unable to be cancelled or refunded part-way through. You can ready our full terms + conditions here.

Are you available for wardrobe styling for TV and photo shoots?

Yes! I have been doing wardrobe styling for TV, advertising, and editorial for over a decade. Please contact me to inquire about styling for your project.
